Overview

The Department of Music Education is committed to training future teachers who are also musicians involved in both music and teaching at the highest professional level. The Department’s vision is to train outstanding teachers who are fine, active musicians as well as sensitive and skilled teachers – thereby combining excellence in both teaching and music.

In accordance with this philosophy, the curriculum is built around the following two goals:
A. To develop the student’s musical ability through performance and courses in theory and history of Jewish, Israeli and non-Western music.
B. To develop pedagogic expertise and to instill knowledge of education through a variety of methodology and psychology courses as well as practical teaching work. Emphasis is on providing students with the skills to develop the child’s creativity and nurture their love for music, and to take an active part in musical activity.
