Overview

The Vocal Department trains singers in the various areas of vocal music (opera, lieder, and oratorio) in a number of languages and styles. Each student also receives lessons in voice development as well as training in accompaniment.

Each year the Opera Workshop presents a number of stage productions together with the chamber ensemble or orchestra, and the students receive acting lessons. In this department the students study three foreign languages (German, Italian, and French) and take special courses such as vocal literature, the art of lied singing, and piano.
